But first you must face my blades!

So last week I did some TMNT nails and when I realised I had some silver spikes that I hadn't used yet, I decided that a Villain in the shape of Shredder would be my next mani.

Of course, it had to be based on (loosely or otherwise) the Shredder from the 1987 series and I used this picture as a basis.

It took me many attempts to get it to a point where I was happy with it, because it was all freehanded, a few times left me with really wobbly lines and smears everywhere, but I really like how it turned out in the end.

Excuse the ginormous thumb, but I wanted to show what it look like from the top.

Ok, so it's not practical for day to day wear but maybe for a night out or a day where you want people to know you mean business and that you will kick some ass if you have to.

No Shredder doesn't have any eyes, that is one (of many) of the things they failed to hand me in the talent department, I cannot for the life of me, draw or paint people eyes, and I thought that if I attempted it, it would ruin the look and I would have to start all over again.

Colours used: Barry M Silver Foil, Rimmel 60 Seconds Purple Reign, Barry M Grey, Barry M Gelly Lychee and the Barry M Nail Art Pen in black for the line details.

I attached the spikes by applying top coat and pushing them on while it was still tacky. I didn't use Seche, just a cheap top coat, this meant the spikes came off rather quickly, so if I was to wear them for a night out, I would probably use Seche or some nail glue to ensure they stay on.

Would you wear nails like this? Are there any characters you want to put on your nails but have never attempted it? What do you think should be the next nerdy nail art I try?

The Lacquer Legion: Fandom

I'm not ashamed to say that I am a member of many a Fandom, and it's not often that I'm not fangirling over something or someone. So when The Lacquer Legion announced this months theme, it was equally awesome and challenging. It meant that I would have to narrow it down to one thing.

I spent ages trying to think what I wanted to do, Harry Potter, No, Hunger Games, No, Gaming, No, Game of Thrones, No.......this went on for some time before I settled on something comic related. So of course it had to be Batman, but I had already done Batman nails and some Comic Book nails before, cue some more debating, but no, I love Batman, it was going to be Batman, so I decided to try some Gotham City nails with a Bat Signal above the city.

Yes, they have been done before by loads of other people but sometimes it nice to try it for yourself.

I did a Batman silhouette on the thumb on a sort of smokey/cloudy dark background to sort of show him hiding in the shadows, overlooking the city.

I didn't want the Bat Signal to be completely solid, so I added the 'light' by sponging on the yellow and once I had done the Bat Symbol, sponged a little more yellow round the edges.

I used a base of Born Pretty Store Blue Holo polish and added a coat of Barry M Diamond Glitter to give a sparkly early evening sky effect. Problem was, the weather decided to completely turn just before I was ready to take pictures, I got a few pictures but no sparkles and then my camera died and I couldn't find any batteries. So I took the above photo on my iPhone to show just a little sparkle.

This is a great theme and I love looking at other peoples nerdy nails. You can check them out on Twitter by searching #LLFandom or check the posts on The Lacquer Legion Facebook page.

Loot Crate: Villains

Yep, as you've guessed, this months Loot Crate was all about Villains and I'm not ashamed to say that this months Loot gave me total girlwood. Above you can see the magazine cover and the whole back and front was covered with the artwork, like a mini poster. Isn't the art awesome?

The first item is this Joki T-Shirt. Combining 2 of possibly the best Villains from across the Superhero multiverse and designed by Zack Finfrock who has done art for Loot Crate before, this t-shirt alone is well worth the price I pay for the box. Luckily, it was sent in the correct size too, as last month I was sent a Mens XL and couldn't be bothered with sending it all back from UK to US so had to sacrifice an awesome Marty Mcprime tee to hubs.

Next up is a Rocket Raccoon Comic book with an exclusive Loot Crate cover.

With the upcoming release of Guardians of the Galaxy, Rocket Raccoon is likely to become a familiar name and this comic book will help educate those of us that don't really know much of anything about the furry fighter.

With art by Skottie Young and exclusive cover art done by Dale Keown.

Then we have 2 posters, one Joker and one Harley Quinn. I love these posters. Both posters came together attached with a perforated making it easy to split in two and are each slightly thinner and longer than an A4 page. The artwork is beautiful, especially on the Harley poster and are a perfect addition to any comic book fans walls.

Aaaaaaah these Deadpool socks are awesome, I know socks with sandals is forbidden, but if I wear these with pretty sandals, would it make it acceptable?

Really it's too warm at the moment to be wearing socks at all, so maybe I will save the and keep them new and awesome for a more appropriate sock wearing season.

These Official Marvel socks really do make me wish it was Autumn or Winter. :(

It's not just comic book villains though, we also have a Darth Vader Keyring, one of those sturdy rubbery ones. Dilemma on this one is where to attach it, on the keys that have hundreds of keyrings and that get chucked around and dropped all over the place, on a Star Wars messenger bag which I seem to have forgotten the location of OR turn it into a funky Darth lover necklace. Hmmmmm?

Back to Superhero stuff, we have this Necessary Evil: Super-Villains of DC Comics Documentary DVD which I might add is narrated by the super awesome Christopher Lee. Yes it is NTSC region but if I remember rightly, my laptop should switch between regions a few times, well, I hope anyway.

This is a little bit of a different item, I don't know if there have been any DVDs in Loot Crates before but I haven't received one until now and I think it is a great addition.

The final piece of Loot is a Bowser Propaganda fridge magnet. The colours on this magnet are really bright and stands out nicely on our white fridge. It sits nicely alongside the Attack on Titanfall Magnet from a few months ago and one day our fridge door shall be a nerdy, food filled, paradise.

The pin badge this months is also a little piece of awesome, with artwork taken from the cover.

And just to add that little extra sploosh into Looters unboxing, there was some art on the inside of the box.

So even if we count the posters as one item, that makes it 7 items in this box (not including pin badge). That's a whole lot of villainous villainy and as always, a really well thought out and put together box. I would even go as far as to estimate that the loot is waaaaaaay over what I paid for the box and if it's not then I don't even care.

If you haven't already signed up to Loot Crate then surely this month you have been convinced, and if your not yet convinced, then maybe the prospect of next months box will.

Yes, that's right, Heroes, the August theme is freaking Heroes. Excuse me while I drool a bit, ok a lot.

If you fancy signing up for Loot Crate before all the Heroes box have been purchased then what are you waiting for? Get your mush on, channel The Flash and click this different coloured bit right here and get a move on.

Let me know in the comments if you sign up.

Turtley Awesome: TMNT Nails

I'm still here, I haven't disappeared again, just trying to get myself semi organised.

With the impending release of the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie and the undoubtable disappointment it will bring (is it really that hard for Megan Fox to change her hair colour for one film? this is among other niggly bits), I decided that I wanted to do some retro (read 'proper') TMNT nails.

Then one of my most awesome purchases ever arrived, this set of 4 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles earrings, and it made me want to do the nails even more.

(If you have fallen in love with these earrings as much as I did, you can buy them here on eBay for $14.88 (about £8.72) with free postage.)

So I did my quick doodle of how I wanted them to look, roughly, and as you can see, the original idea had mouths, the finished mani does not. This is because I free handed the masks and ended up with very little space underneath, so mouths, consider yourself sacrificed.

On the note of free handing, I attempted over and over again to freehand the shell design for my thumb and I just couldn't get it right, I must have started this nail over about 7 or 8 times before I gave up and decided that I was going to cheat. So, for this design, used Bundle Monster stamping plate BM-313 and it kind of, almost, pretty much works.

Polishes used: Barry M Spring Green, Barry M Gelly mango, Nails Inc St James St, Models Own Hypergel Blue Glint and Konad Black for the stamp.

Who is your favourite Turtle? I love Donatello which of course is an issue for my 8 year old 'But Mum, Donatello has a rubbish weapon!' 'His staff may not be the best weapon, but he is smart and uses his brain, which is the greatest weapon of all' Yeah, he still doesn't like Donatello :(.

I hope you like these nails, watch out for another TMNT themed mani coming soon.

Born Pretty Internet Logo Stamping Plate

I'm going to have a little bit of a mum rant to start this post, when it comes to technology, kids these days don't really get how lucky they are. I remember when my school first got a computer, yes a single computer. It was huge, in size and importance but the only thing we used it for was to play Snake (or as it was called then 'Caterpillar') and a maths game where you had to work out sums to get The  Grand Old Duke of York up the hill.

Now, the Internet and social media is everything to us and is available on tiny little pocket sized devices. I'm sure this has happened throughout history with all kinds of technology and advancements but how amazing is it to be alive to witness such an advancements?

I love technology and having all the information in the world available to me whenever I want and I love stamping, and this Born Pretty Store Stamping Plate is the perfect addition to the collection of anyone with similar interests.

The plate has 19 single images (no full nail images) all relating to websites/apps/processes on the Internet.

So I put together a simple mani using some of the most familiar images on the plates. My images are a little faint because my white stamping polish is empty and I used Models Own White Light Hypergel instead.

On my thumb I used the phone image over Barry M Gelly Key Lime to symbolise the phone icon on an Iphone.

On my index finger I used the Facebook logo over Barry M Gelly Blue Grape.

On my middle finger I used the RSS feed symbol over Barry M mango. My stamp went a little skewiff there, pretend you didn't see that.

On my ring finger, I stamped the @ symbol over Barry M Gelly Blueberry, this was to symbolise Twitter.

And on my pinkie, I stamped the Google+ symbol over Nails Inc St James.

I then topped it all with OPI Matte Top Coat. This makes for some simple, cute and colourful, social media nail art.

Here it is with a coat of Seche Vite on top, but it kind of feels like the gloss takes away from the symbols.

The images are etched into the plate at the perfect depth and there are no discrepancies in any of the images, and the image sizes are just right so that you can have them as the single image on a nail, or have them as part of a bigger design.

Whenever I see any hexagonal stamping plates, I tend to end up buying at least one, not just because they are really cheap but because they tend to have unique designs on them and I haven't had one yet that I've had any problems with.

You can buy this stamping plate from Born Pretty Store here for $1.49 (about £0.87) and for that price, it is more than worth it, especially with free worldwide postage. Plus, if you use my discount code CBAQ10, you can get another 10% off your entire order. I'm pretty sure that is cheaper than chips.

The Stamping plate in this post was sent to me for review. All opinions expressed are my own honest opinion. All other products mentioned in this post were purchased by myself.

Born Pretty Cute Cat Water Decals

Helllooooooo, I have been somewhat invisamible for a while now, as always, every time I disappear it is because of my condition. It has been quite a while this time, and I'm feeling slightly better so I'm slowly trying to catch up on things that have been pushed aside recently. On a bright note with regards to my little hiatus and health condition, during the hiatus, I have had quite a few tests and there is an illness that is looking more likely than ever before, I'm not going to mention what it is in case I jinx it, but hopefully, with a few more definitive tests that should be happening soon, I should know exactly what is wrong with me and will be better equipped to manage it. So YAY.

Back to today's actual post now, I'll be honest, its not some of my best, and my hands and cuticles are really dry because I honestly didn't look after them at all during this time but these Born Pretty Store decals are so cute, I just wanted to get them on my nails.

You might notice straight away that some, if not all of these kitties are from popular media, the most notable (well, to me anyway) is Toro Inoue/Sony cat.

This cat (below) however, has been driving me insane for ages now.

I recognise it, and I'm sure it is from a cartoon from way back when, but for the life of me, I just can't pinpoint it. I've searched all the cartoons I can think of from back in the day and still not found it. If anyone can tell me who it is or what they are from, I will love you forever.

On the decal sheet, you have 10 different characters, you get 2 of each characters, one facing left and one facing right. You also get 2 sets of paw prints and 2 fish bones. Giving you enough ammo to make a cute and busy mani or some focused nail art.

I decided to use just one character, I don't know what he is from either but he looked super cute.

I used a base or Barry M Matt White, on my middle finger I added this cute little guy and a fish bone and on my ring finger a paw print trail. On my other fingers I used OPI Emotions and attempted to do a little paw print at the top of each nail using OPI Its frosty outside.

One thing to mention about these decals is that they are basically pre-cut to size, you can see in the picture above what looks like a thick white section, this is the decal. While this can be a bit fiddly on smaller decals, it actually really helps in the end. The pre-cut means you don't have to cut it to size yourself and you also wont get any of those unsightly visible edges once the top coat has been applied.

They are very easy to apply and I had no curling, even when applying Seche Vite straight over it.

You can get these Cute Kitty Decals from Born Pretty here for $2.29 (about £1.34) and don't forget, to use my discount code CBAQ10 at checkout for 10% off your entire Born Pretty order, oh and it's free delivery to anywhere in the world.
