My Favourite Mani's of 2015!

I have been pretty sparse on the blog these last few weeks because of the festivities and because of our beautiful new family addition, Kylo keeping us busy, but I really wanted to do one of these favourites posts. I honestly feel pretty chuffed with myself looking back over 2015 and I really love a huge majority of my nail art but it made sense to go through and pick a smaller amount of favourites and obviously, most of them turned out to be nerdy ones or Loot Crate inspired mani's. It was supposed to be the top ten but then I remembered one that needed a special mention.

I have ordered these, which was a tough feat and it would likely change order on any different day but here goes.

Star Wars Week Day 5: Captain Phasma Nails

I know, I know, these are a day late but yesterday I ended up being a bit busy with the newest member of our family, Kylo, a beautiful 2 year old StaffyX. This is the best photo I have managed to take of her so far.

I had managed to get the base done early yesterday morning but didn't get to finish it so I added some helmet details today, I'm completely knackered so it isn't that great but I absolutely love how the base turned out so i wasn't going to let it go to waste. I was going for the 'battle scarred armour' look and it kind of looks like it was shiny but has been dulled by time and war.

I used Barry M silver foil with Barry M Black and did a cling film/ saran wrap mani. The helmet details were done using Barry M Black nail art pen.

So that's a wrap for my Star Wars week, which one was your favourite? Mine has to be the Poe Dameron nails.

Star Wars Week Day 4: Scruffy Looking Nerf Herder

If you follow me on any social media, you might have seen me post earlier that I had run out of batteries and so I couldn't take any photos of Star wars day 4. Well, it was annoying the absolutely Fett out of me that I wouldn't be able to post day 4 on day 4, so I checked around the house for alternatives, the iPhone 4s camera is not mani friendly btw, but the Sony Xperia Z3 (Jim's phone) camera is actually a pretty good camera if you go through the settings on the manual setting, I reckon if I fiddled enough it would be better than my actual camera.

So because I couldn't wait, here are my Han Solo nails. Looking at the photo whilst writing this is making me wish that I had made the belt buckle waaaaay smaller, but I think as a pretty simple mani, it works. The index finger is Han's shirt and waistcoat/vest combo, middle finger is supposed to be his belt buckle with a bit of belt, ring finger is his trousers and pinkie is shiny black for his boots.

My favourite nail turned out to be my thumb. When the trailer ended with 'Chewie, we're home' I squeed so hard, I can't imagine there was a single person who didn't, it was so full of feels we almost exploded and I wanted to give a little nod to that on this Han mani.

Hopefully, I'll get some batteries tomorrow so my photos will be back to normal, I really need to invest in some rechargeable batteries or a new camera maybe, one day *le sigh*

Tomorrow will be the last day of my Star Wars mani's and I think I have a pretty good idea of what I am doing, is there any Star Wars mani that you would like to see that I haven't done yet?

Star Wars Week Day 3: C3PO Nails

These nails took forever! I wanted to do C3PO nails but I wanted them to be proper shiny/reflective and the best idea I could come up with was glequins, so I painstakingly placed all the glittah as neatly as possible and then did the details on top.

They look freaking awesome and I have already had compliments on but they are an absolute pain in the ass to photograph and the photos really don't do them any justice at all. IRL they are something else, if I do say so myself.

To start with, I used a base of Barry M Black and then placed the glitters using a clear Poundland polish and a cocktail stick, then I topped with one coat of Seche, except on one nail that needed 2 coats because some of the glequins didn't sit properly. The glequins I used are around 1.2mm in size and are from a pack of 12 different colours which you can find on Born Pretty and eBay.

Then I used Barry M Nail art pen in Black to add the details, the middle finger is a stamp from Bundle Monster BM-418, I removed some of the outer, unattached swirls first then applied it to the nail.

This is my favourite photo of this, it would make a great macro, you can see how shiny and reflective it is and you can see the black details really well.

I have 2 problems now, first of all, I don't want to take these nails off because they are so pretty and secondly, I have no idea what mani to do for tomorrow :(

Also, a non nail related problem, we have had to cancel our plans to go and see the movie this week so I'm going to have to stay away from spoilers now, which is going to be such a pain in the ass, hopefully we get to go see it soon. Are you going to see it?

Star Wars Week Day 2: Poe Dameron Nails

Yes, it's day 2 of my Star Wars week and I decided to do a basic representation of Poe Dameron. He wasn't originally on my list of mani's this week but I suddenly got an idea for it as I was falling asleep last night and jotted it down and you know what? I freakin' love it. Often the simplest ones turn out the best, like my Han and Leia mani!

All 5 nails together represent his pilot uniform.
For the white nails, I used a base of Barry M Cotton and topped with Seche, then I used lots of bits of striping tape and OPI Matte Topcoat before peeling off the tape to give a really subtle striped effect. Annoyingly, the striping tape left some bits of it's silver colour behind on the edges so it made them look a little dirty but it isn't too noticeable. I really love the textured feel of these stripes and they look great!

The thumb is Dameron's helmet! Do you know how much of a pain in the ass it is to freehand a tiny Rebel Alliance symbol? It's a huge pain in the ass, HUGE! But, it turned out awesome. Polishes used on the thumb are Barry M Black and Ciate Red Hot Chilli.

For my ring and pinkie I used Barry M Mango and stamped the Rebel Alliance symbol onto my pinkie.

Lets hope the rest of this weeks nail art goes this well.

Star Wars Week Day 1: Wampa's Hoth no place on mah nails!

It's the run up to The Force Awakens this week and I am going to try nailing out a few new Star Wars mani's, maybe not one every day but a good few hopefully and the first one is Wampa!

In my imagination, when I decided that I was going to do Wampa nails, they were perfect, they were fluffy and looked just like the yeti like creatures! In reality, well, the important thing is that I tried, right? Even though they aren't the best, I kind of like them! They're cute and furry in a nightmarish kind of way.

I used Barry M Cotton for the base, then topped with white flock. The horns, eyes and nose are all made from polymer clay and the mouth was just draw on with polish.

These aren't practical at all, but I have a few other awesome mani's planned that will be. What Star Wars theme or character would you like to see?

Arcade Block November 2015

This month's Arcade Block was nothing to be scoffed at, it has a good selection of items and a pretty solid overall value. I lost the card for the items, so don't expect too much actual information about them, it will just be my ramblings. These info cards for boxes are always a 'yeah I put it down there and now it's not there, maybe I moved it over here... Nope, it's gone forever!' One day, I'm going to find a hidden bundle of Arcade Block and Infinity Crate info cards, just stacks and stacks of them, just living out their lives in a little cubby!

Barry M Autumn/Winter Sunset Collection Swatches

Do you remember my entry into the Bon Prix #PartyPolished comp? Well, I won it! Yay me! It was a fantastic prize and I was so happy to win. I got £50 to spend on Bon Prix so I choose a lush, cosy, fluffy hoodie in black and an amazing pair of multi-chrome hi tops, I also got £47 worth of Barry M products which included the Autumn release of the Sunset Collection and the Autumn release of the Speedy Collection.

It has taken me this long to post about it because I really wanted to do an outfit post to show off the hoodie and the hi tops, then do separate swatch posts, but I just couldn't muster the confidence so it is swatch posts only I'm afraid and as you might have guessed, today is the Sunset polishes from the Autumn release.

I never really bought into the whole daylight curing thing so I don't own any of the Sunset range, and I found myself looking at the shades and wished that they had just released them as part of the Gelly range, but I was very surprised by these polishes and I may actually be in love with this first one!

Loot Crate: Combat

I was really excited for this months crate because they said Blizzard items, I have genuine love for Blizzard and their games, like last Rolo kind of love! Yeah you know what I am talking about, we all have that one game or franchise or company like that. Loot Crate is one of mine too, and they have been pretty awesome these last few weeks, subscribers were given the chance to give a few friends/family their first crate for free and we were given a chance to get our first LVLUP at a discounted price, which I did, because I obviously need to try it, though a little too late for this month but I went for the accessories LVLUP, so I can't wait for that next month, especially since I now know that the theme is Galaxy!

Anyway, this month's theme was Combat and it was full of awesome goodies, so lets have a look at them.

Danglefoot Nail Polish Star Wars Collection

At the moment I'm not sure which one I am more excited for, Star Wars of Christmas, Star Wars or Christmas, Star Wars or Christmas? It's probably just over the edge Star Wars, just because I know that it's closer than Christmas, plus all the awesome merch. One of the best things about such epicness, nail polish collections. When Hayley of Danglefoot Nail Polish asked me to swatch her upcoming Star Wars Collection, my tiny nerd self squeed. This is a pretty hefty photo filled post, just be warned.

Stick to Stigu Planner: Plan Hard, Play Hard, Rest Hard!

I am not an organised person, in fact, since brain fog became a part of my life I would honestly put myself at the worst end of disorganised. I forget everything unless I write it down, I never plan and split my day up in an effective way and I never get things done when they need to be done.

Stick to Stigu is a new planner with a look-after-yourself twist and when I stumbled across them on twitter I knew I had to try it out, it seems like the perfect thing for me.  It's about the size of a Gen 1 iPad and has a spiral binding with lots of pages in it. I can have it sat open on my desk and comfortably carry it around with me in my bag.

Get Party Ready Feet: Cuplex Hard Skin File and Heel Repair Cream

I'll be honest, I really don't look after my feet as often as I should and I really should because I am very prone to hard skin which sometimes gets so bad that it becomes painful, which is usually when I'll give my feet a bit of love. Don't worry, I'll spare you the sight of my feet or the aftermath of my foot love but I have given these two items a good test to let you know what they are like.

Troop Du Jour

Star Wars Battlefront is out today in the UK and I obviously had to do another Star Wars related mani! The original Battlefront and Battlefront II on PS2 were the first games that me and the man really bonded on, we spent hours on them.

I didn't manage to get the beta working on the laptop but I did try a game or 2 on the PS4 to see how it played and although I have been super excited for this game, I am not quite sure my eyes or brain function well enough for me to play shooter games to a satisfactory level any more. That doesn't mean I am not going to give it a good go when we manage to get it, it just means I will get incredibly frustrated because I am no longer a boss ass bitch, hahaha!

Who liked my title? No-one? Oh, sad face! I was trying to be clever, you know a play on the whole 'nail of the day' 'soup of the day' soup du jour' thing mixed in with a Stormtrooper.

Anywhoo, back to the mani. The base is Barry M Gelly Cotton and I stamped both images using the MyOnlineShop MJXLII and Konad Black.

I love this wallpaper style image, although I do wish there was a little more detail on the left side of the image because it just looks like a bit too blobbed for my liking, but look how cute the mini trooper is. I also wish I had managed to stamp the image right to the edges but it's the price I pay for trying to get it as straight as possible. Can't have wonky Stormtroopers now can we?

So who already has the game, who is getting it and who has no interest?

Barry M Glitter Gelly Swatches

Look at me, being productive again, wooo. I decided that there was no better way to do something than with glitter, so here are swatches for the Barry M Glitter Gelly polishes. These have been out a little while now and I have had them basically since release.

I was ecstatic to see glitter polishes come to the Gelly range but a tad disappointed that there were only two shades, hopefully in the future more of these are released.

The glitter in them is a fine glitter so not only does it look fab and give the polish a beautiful layered depth to it but it means they are easy to apply, easy to remove and still have the high shine that the Gelly cremes have. They also have the wide, rounded brushes that we saw in the Speedy nail paints which makes it even easier to get neatly up to the cuticle but not on it and cover the nail in less brush strokes.

Sparkling Ruby

Sparkling Ruby is a ruby red with gold glitter flecks.

It is a perfect Christmassy polish and in some lighting I have noticed and orange shift which makes it look like embers.

In the shade it looks like a deep wine red and you can still see the glitter.

Sparkling Amethyst

Sparkling Amethyst is a deep, dark purple with blue and purpley pink glitter flecks.

This one is my favourite of the two and has an incredibly beautiful depth to it.

In the shade it maintains it's dark purple shade and the glitter looks more pink than anything.

All photos are two coats of each with no topcoat, yes, that is the shine of the polish alone. The formula on these polishes are pretty great, as I mentioned before, the glitter isn't the 'use all your spoons scrubbing it off' type of glitter, meaning if you want a quick and easy bit of sparkle these are definitely my recommended go to (aside from holo obvs) and just like previous Gelly polishes, the dry quickly too.

Both polishes are slight stainers, more so the purple, so make sure to use a good base coat with them and be wary that they are a bit of a pain to clean up from around cuticles if you twitch and flood them as I often do.

These are available exclusively to Superdrug and are £3.99 each, so if you are looking for a bit of sparkle for the holiday season grab them now, especially since they are currently on the 3for2 offer.

Is it too early to put Christmas decs up? I am getting in the spirit already. Are you?

Autumnal Leaves Mani with LadyQueen Water Decals

I did it! I managed to actually do an Autumnal mani, with the help of these LadyQueen autumn leaf water decals. There are around 75 individual decals on this sheet, with different colours and different sizes of leaves and one large decal (top left) with multiple leaves in it.

Each leaf is individually cut so that when you are applying it to the nail, there isn't a load of pesky extra decal bits and it means that you can easily place and stack the decals to build your nail art.

Once dipped in the water, I did find it a bit of a pain to get the decal off the backing, they really were a pain to budge without smooshing it up or ripping it, so I recommend leaving it in the water for a little longer than recommended on the packaging.

They clung to the nail well once positioned and when I applied the topcoat, there was no lifting, curling of colour bleed. Speaking of the colours, they are vibrant and stand out nicely against a white base. Clean up was easy and any excess decal removed with a brush dipped in acetone remover.

You can find this decal sheet here for £1.13/$1.76 and don't forget to use code LGGT15 for 15% off your order.

Did you notice that I also managed to do a semi decent gradient? Polishes used for the gradient are Danglefoot Nail Polish Cast a Spell, Danglefoot Nail Polish True of Heart and Freckles Polish He's Been! He's Been!. Doesn't the gradient remind you of the old school Rosy Apple sweets/lollipops, omnomnom.

Infinity Crate: Plague

The October Infinity Crates theme was Plague, think zombies, infections, undead, that sort of thing and this months crate wasn't really that bad tbh.

Dumbledore's Army hehe 034 Stamping Plate from LadyQueen.com

Today I have another fun Harry Potter themed stamping plate, this plate is hehe 034 from LadyQueen. LadyQueen is a website which is very similar to Born Pretty Store, they have a large selection of products including a fab selection of nail products.

This nail art is loosely based on a Dumbledore's Army bag that I saw online, it comes in two colours, Khaki and Black. I wanted to do it based on the khaki one but I don't own a single green that is even close to khaki, or I at least couldn't find one this morning, so I used the amazing A-England Ascalon as the base.

I stamped using Konad white and the images picked up quite well although there were some patches in the design but overall the plate is pretty good quality. I will mention that I don't think this is an official Aiyoohehe plate as there is no card backing, it is just bare metal and there do seem to be a few small discrepancies in the images.

I tried a double stamp on the thumb with the Griffin image in red and yellow, then I stamped over that with the white D.A image. It didn't really come out as I planned, it was supposed to look kind of phoenix like and it was supposed to really stand out under the D.A, it still looks kinda cool though.

You can buy this plate here for £1.92/$2.99 and if you use my code LGGT15 to get 15% off your order amount. Now remember, this may take 4-6 weeks to arrive depending on where in the world you are but it is free shipping which is a bonus.
