Freckles Polish (some of) The 80's Collection

You know me when it comes to Freckles Polish holos, I turn to a gibbering mess, I have to have them, I always miss out on at least one polish of each collection, but this time, I only had budget for 4 polishes from the 80's collection and I decided to get the 4 holos, by the time I remembered to go and buy them, Stilettos was sold out, so I ended up just getting Scrunchies, Shellsuit Superstar and Pogo Stick. I say just but they are all absolutely stunning as usual and I love them.

It's a pretty picture heavy post because I swatched these and then had some fun with them.

Born Pretty Store Vinyls Review

I'm loving vinyls at the moment, there are so many different and unique designs. Born Pretty Store have just released some of their own vinyls and I really wanted to test them out. Each 'pack' of vinyls comes with 2 different designs and you get 6 vinyls of each design, which is a bit of a random number, not enough of each design so that you could do the same nail art on all 10 nails.

I chose the hearts and lines pack, I had a simple idea for the hearts the moment I saw them.

They were easy to remove from the backing and they are made of a good stretchy vinyl which I found helped when trying to form it to my nails, even the super curvy ones but the adhesive could do with being a bit stronger, I was getting lift all over, even right in the middle where I normally wouldn't have a problem, This meant that, even with sponging, polish got under the vinyl and the vinyl shifted in places, giving me uneven and unfinished hearts.

Base is Barry M Black and Red is Nails Inc Luminous Red.

The vinyl was easy to remove and didn't leave behind any sticky residue or lift any of my base polish with it. These are about the same price as other vinyls on the market and if they fix the adhesive and come out with a few more designs it will definitely be worth it.

This was my second mani, this time I used the line vinyls. I didn't get a much lift with this one, maybe because the line were pretty thin, it worked much better than the heart vinyl.

You can get these vinyls here for £2.99/$4.59 but they also do some other designs here for £1.95/$2.99, go check them out too, and don't forget to use my discount code CBAQ10 for 10% off you basket amount.

What do you think of vinyls? Would you use these on a regular basis to do your nails and what designs would you like to see come out in the future?

Sparkly Vernis 'Blurple Ice Cubes'

9 weeks ago, I won 3 beautiful Sparkly Vernis polishes on an Instagram comp being ran by LacquerLandUK and Rainbow Connection. I was very lucky as these polishes are stunning and I have never owned or tried any Sparkly Vernis polishes before.

I put them on my desk when they arrived and whoosh, like many things these days, the memory of them disappeared from  my brain. Of course, every now and then, I would sit at my desk and lovingly glance over at them, see how beautiful they are and tell myself that once I was done with the current mani, that I would try them out, then whoosh, gone again.

Not this time though, with the sun having been out more often than not lately in these parts, the holo polishes always come out and get used loads, so it was about bloody time I got at least one of these polishes on my nails. So my first use of them had to be Blurple Ice Cubes and not just because I love the name, isn't it lush though?

Blurple Ice Cubes is blue/purple holo that, in my opinion/ lighting, leans more on the blue side but it definitely has a lilac side that peeks out every now and then. It has a very strong linear holo that shines through beautifully in green, yellow, orange, pink and red. It applied smooth like butter, dried quickly to a semi matte finish and was easy to clean up. I used 2 coats with one coat of Seche.

In the shade, where the holo doesn't show through at all, Blurple Ice Cubes looks like a gorgeous icy, matte blue polish.

I haven't added any nail art for a few reasons, mostly because I'm being lazy but also because this is such a beautiful holo that it should be worn on it's own, in all it's nakey beauty. I can't wait to try the other 2, let's hope I don't forget about the again.

Barry M Speedy 'Pit Stop' Swatch and Review

I've been really slack on the blog this last week or two and I keep staring at my desk and hoping I can get some motivation, the heat is having a massive effect on me but I've had a few of the Barry M Speedy polishes sat on my desk for a little while now and I really want to give them a try, Pit Stop was the first one I bought from the range and although I have used it in nail art, I haven't actually done a swatch or full mani using it.

The Speedy polishes are the first to have the new, wide and flat brush with a rounded end. At first I was a bit dubious about the new brush, I have had problems with wide, flat brushes before and always loved the thin brushes that Barry M have and so I wasn't sure how well I would get on with the new brushes, but you know what? I actually love them, it is so much easier to get right up near the cuticle without getting it everywhere and it is quite easy to apply a coat with minimal brush strokes. I really hope they start to bring the brushes into their other polishes soon.

Pit Stop is a stone grey nude, the formula is not thick, nor is it runny, it was streaky on the first coat but evened out on the second. Photo shows 2 coats of Pit Stop with one coat of Seche Vite. You can see on my index finger that there is still a streak down the middle, I would say that this polish would be best with 3 thin coats applied.

Here it is stamped with Konad White and Bundle Monster BM-505.

It did dry really quickly, around 60 seconds I would say but keep in mind that this could be affected by environment. Now, I'm not sure if it was me, not moving quickly enough or if it was the heat (it has been very warm in the UK over the last few weeks) but I kept getting bubbles all over, I will be trying the other Speedy polishes soon so I can test to see if they bubble as well.

Have you tried any of the Barry M Speedy range? What is your favourite type of brush in nail polishes?

Red Harry Potter Nails using HeHe Stamping Plates

I was going to post this mani tomorrow but it's a hospital day tomorrow and so I have decided to post today instead.

It is really difficult to take photos of stamping plates, there is either too much light or not enough light, reflections of everything in it, including body parts that are nowhere near it, streaks and marks not visible to the naked eye, so this will have to do.

I bought 4 Harry Potter stamping plates ages ago (025,026,027 and 035) and they have just been hidden away, then I bought 3 more from AliExpress about 4 weeks ago (059,061 and 065) and they arrived last week. It then struck me that I have never used the other ones and I really wanted to do a Harry Potter mani.

One of the patterns on the new plates kept calling out to me, the pattern with all the symbols and I just kept thinking red (even though I am Slytherin) and so this mani was born.

It is really simple and it was all going perfectly until I put the Golden Snitch on the wrong was so it looks upside down :(

I love it though, I used the reverse stamping method on this so that I could fill in the wings, then I added a gold stud to make it look like the top of a Golden Snitch.

To say that the plates were really cheap, they stamped really well, which I didn't expect at all, I honestly expected it to be all patchy and stuff and need filling in but I didn't do any filling in, how you see the lines is exactly how they were picked up.

I also used the reverse stamping method on the thumb to do the Hogwarts Crest, this turned out awesome.

I only used 2 of the plates (025 and 059) that I own for this mani and I'm hoping I can come up with a Slytherin mani soon and use a few more of the patterns from the other plates. The base red is Ciate Red Hot Chilli, I stamped using Konad Black and the colours in the Hogwarts Crest are:
 Gryffindor= Ciate Boudoir,
Slytherin= Barry M Spring Green,
Hufflepuff= Barry M On Your Marks
Ravenclaw= Barry M Malibu

Barry M Malibu is a little bright for the Ravenclaw house colour but I wanted it to really show up along with the others and the other blues that I have would have that are closer would have been way too dark.

If you want these plates and of course you do, you can find them here on AliExpress, the price £1.64/$2.50 is for 3 plates of your choice, it has free shipping and it takes around 3-4 weeks to be delivered to the UK, not sure about postage times for other countries.

.....and now I have magic on my nails :)

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday Witches, Wizards and Muggles!

Arcade Block May 2015

I am really late on putting up this post, I've been having a really stressful week, so I'm trying to get some things sorted and it means that I am mostly not in the mood to post, bear with me though, I'm going to be trying to get things up on the blog as much as possible.

Infinity Crates: May 2015

So the May Infinity Crate was our first ever Infinity Crate, this was the one that Ki chose to replace his Nerd Block and honestly, straight away I am convinced that this is a better choice than the Nerd Block by far.

First of all, all Infinity Crates, each month, guarantee a t-shirt and a POP! vinyl, those 2 items straight away are worth the money and everything else is bonus. I also like the fact that you have an interests list and that whilst trying to stick to a theme, they also try to pull from your interests. Of course, Ki's interests aren't quite as varied as ours, so it was only natural that some of ours made it onto the list.

I'm not sure what the May theme was but let's have a look at what we got!

Batman Rubber Wristband

First item up is this Batman rubber wristband, off to a great start. These wristbands are pretty sturdy, so great for a boisterous boy and they pretty much fit anyone.

Cause of the Death Poster

Nest up is this Cause of Death poster. This poster is about A4 size, I think and in a house full of gamers is a great item to add in pretty much any room.

Lord of the Rings pin badge

LOTR is a sore subject in this house, I have tried pretty hard for years to get man and boy to watch the films, but we got 10 mins into The Fellowship of the Ring once and they were both whining that they were bored. :( They have refused to watch any of them ever since. So while I consider this badge to be pretty good, they just see it as a badge with 3 men on it.

Temporary Tattoos sheet

This is a sheet of temporary tattoos. 7 tattoos in the form of the Bat Symbol, The anti-possession tattoo from Supernatural, the Millennium Falcon, the Halo energy sword, Serenity, Gears of War Cog and The Walking Dead logo. These are cool, what child doesn't love temp tattoos, in fact, I am tempted to plaster a few of these on me, maybe have the anti-possession symbol on the back of my neck!

The Walking Dead vinyl sticker

This sticker can be put anywhere and I'm slightly worried that it has been put somewhere it shouldn't have been put, they're pretty easy to remove though, right? Well, if it hasn't already been stuck then I'm sure we can find it a home.

Zoe Washburne POP! Vinyl

This one really takes no explaining or details or anything, just know, if you don't already know, that it is indeed awesome. In fact, I may have swapped an item from our Arcade Block (which I will show you soon) with Ki so that I can have this.

Batman Dark Knight T-Shirt

This t-shirt pretty much nailed it. If you want to get us on board with anything, send plenty of Batman stuffs our way. Ki loves it, the sizing is perfect and the t-shirt quality is pretty high.

So yeah, I'm pretty happy with what Infinity Crates has shown in our first crate, as both a parent spending money on a child and a nerd who can sometimes pinch items from it. Like I said, the POP! vinyl and the t-shirt, guaranteed every month made it the best option and make it worth it anyway. But what is the value of this crate like?

So Infinity Crates are a UK based company, all the pricing will be done using UK prices, where possible. A monthly subscription to IC is £16.99 with free UK postage.

Batman wristband- £3.59- Amazon

Cause of Death poster- half of $14.99/£9.81- Level up studios. Ok so I couldn't find a UK price or the exact poster on this one. The poster I did find was about double the size so I would go for half of the price.

LOTR Badge- £3.35- Zazzle- These badges all look pretty similar to this one.

Temp tattoos sheet- £3.99- Amazon- I couldn't find these exact ones but I looked around a lot and found a few of similar prices and I think this is a good price for them.

Walking Dead vinyl sticker- £3-£4- Amazon/Etsy. not the exact one but very similar.

POP! Vinyl- £8.99- Forbidden Planet

T-shirt- £8-£15- Qwertee- with t-shirts, I tend to go by the fact that I get a really cool novelty t-shirt from Qwertee for £8, other places do some but a little higher in price.

So all together the value of the items come to around £35.82 which is slightly more than double what we paid. Good value in my eyes. Hopefully it keeps up the pace, can't wait to see what happens to our Funko collection in the coming months.

Inspired by Loot Crate: Green Ranger Nails

I have been struggling to decide on what my 'Inspired by Loot Crate' nails were going to be but I've had a few spoonless days lately and yesterday was a day full of stress, so what better way to cheer myself up with some nerdy nails.

As you can see, in the end I decided to go with the Green Ranger t-shirt as inspiration. The t-shirt is awesome and Power Rangers are even more awesome. Did you see that Fan Made Power Rangers short? It's the Power Rangers movie we need and deserve.

I used Rimmel 60 seconds Grey Matter as the base, then I used the cling film/saran wrap method with Rimmel Grey Matter and Barry M Gelly Chai to get a t-shirt kind of look.

The Green Ranger face is done using Barry M Spring Green, although I wish I had used a different green as this one seems a bit too bright for the design. The White Ranger was done using Barry M Silk  Pearl.

I wanted the thumb to be as simple as the rest of the mani so I did just the Lightning Bolt from the MMPR logo. I used Barry M Silk Pearl for this too.

I didn't spend a whole lot of time on these, I did a quick doodle of what I wanted to do, and set out, they only took about an hour all in all so the details aren't perfect but you know how much I love quick and simple nerdy nails. I promise I will get the May Infinity Crate and Arcade Block posts up in the next couple of days, I promise.

You can see all the items from the May Loot Crate including the Green Ranger t-shirt in this post here and if you are thinking of subscribing to Loot Crate then I say do it now and do it here!

Hope you have all had a good weekend!

Loot Crate: Unite May 2015

The May Loot Crate theme was Unite and look at how awesome that cover is. I'm still waiting for the day that Loot Crate announce that their artwork will be included each month as a poster, I'd love both of those images as prints.

Awesome badge as usual, but I'm going to move onto the items in this month's crate. This was a pretty awesome crate, I fail to ever be disapointed with Loot Crate, each month the items make me squee and this month is no different. I think I may be a Loot Crate fangirl, is that a thing? Anyway, looook!!
