Goodbye 2016

Let's admit it, 2016 has been an absolute dick of a year for most of us, this has truly been the darkest timeline, it even doubled down and took a few more people from the world right at the end, but we can definitely pull back from it and lets face it, if something isn't hard, then it's just not worth doing.

In February/March of this year I had my worst relapse so far and that scary time meant that the rest of the year has been a tough and scary climb up a bastard of a hill, I fought criticism, non working body parts, depression and anxiety, chronic and agonising pain, insomnia, memory issues, self doubt and let me tell you now, I had some super dark moments but I have done my best to remain positive moving on and I can say that I have emerged through the other side of 2016 ready to fight anything else that comes my way.

Of course, some good things have happened this year, I became a Nerd Makeup Ambassador for Espionage Cosmetics and lost all my squee over it, I have gained some new and pretty amazing followers and I have forged some pretty fantastic internet friendships, I fought and won when they claimed I wasn't sick and I started on some meds that will hopefully help me, hopefully! We've now had Kylo just over a year and she has settled in well and become a huge part of our lives and hearts. But most of all, my little family has started to move towards a happier family unit with understanding of MS and Aspergers with a collective strength.

I did some fun mani's in 2016 and here I have narrowed it down to 9, which ones from this year were your favourite? I also gained some awesome nerdy stuffs this year, if you want to keep up with stuff I get next year then follow me on Instagram, my username is @Plus10Kapow

For 2017, I am not making resolutions because I just never stick to them, instead, I have made promises to myself and future Chrissie that I am going to bust my ass to eat healthy (Keto, which I started a few months ago but stupidly broke for Christmas, I'm weak!), to lose weight (for health reasons) and get fit so that MS is all I have to fight and I will have all the weapons to do so. I'm also hoping to game more and read more. I hope you will all continue to join me for this journey and I promise to always fight as long as you do!

Happy new year, you beautiful weirdos,

Love

Espionage Cosmetics Power Up Nail Wraps

I hope you all had a good Christmas/ Holiday, I wore these awesome Espionage Cosmetics Power Up nail wraps over Christmas because I got pretty sick with a stomach bug or something on the 23rd and it just got worse over the following days, so I wanted something pretty but with minimum thought process and these more than did their job.

I would definitely like to think that I am getting better at applying these and I got the Barry M Plumpy topcoat which is not quick dry so I minimised the shrinkage on them, still need to get the hang of getting rid of the excess though, I get what looks like tip wear immediately.

I love the design of these wraps though, they are so bright and so cutesy but awesome and gamerly too. The little stars all over them have golden glitter in them to add a bit of extra sparkle.

These wraps are still available but are currently low stock so could go at any moment and there are still a good bunch of stuff on sale over there to make way for awesome new things in 2017 so don't forget to check it all out and you can use my code NMA15KAPOW for 15% off your order if it's over $25 (as long as you haven't used the code before) and don't forget that you can also use the code BBKAPOWNX to get $3 off any new BOOM!Box or Nexus subscription.

I am currently trying to recover from the horrible news about Carrie Fisher and I am hoping to do some Princess Leia nails at some point, she was such a legend and an inspiration to so many people for many different things and she will be missed. 2016, you have been a bitch, stop trying to take more before you end.

Christmas Lights Nails

I'm feeling pretty festive today and I wanted to use some of the beautiful Wikkid Polish flakies I have but also make it Christmassy. I used Barry m Black Forest, then one coat of Wikkid Polish What the Flake, then I used the string lights stamp from the Uberchic Christmas 01 plate and reverse stamped using several different polishes from Serum No 5 and Wikkid Polish...

...to make them do this! I wanted them to be barely visible on the 'tree' throughout the day and then bright and pretty at night, and I pretty much think I nailed it. I do wish that I had more colours of glow-in-the-darks but I think it worked pretty well.

Because I haven't showed of this polish on it's own yet, i thought I would add in the swatch photos of it so you can see just how pretty it is. All the Wikkid Polish flakies have awesome colour shifts but I can never seem to pick it up on the nail so check out this shift in the bottle, it goes from green to blue to purple to gold.

This is one coat of What the Flake over two coats of Barry M Black Forest and topped with one coat of Seche, so pretty.

With all the festivities happening, my fatigue has been getting pretty bad so I may not get to do many, if any more Christmas nails, I hope I can though,

What are you going to be wearing on your nails for Christmas Day?

Textured Snowy Nails

Ok, so technically these are a remake of my Winter Wonderland nails from when I swatched originally swatched KBShimmer White Her, White Now in 2014 but, I wanted to see how good they looked on my now strong and long nails and with proper trees, plus they are so Christmassy and I am wishing for snow this year, it's been so long.

I love White Here, White Now at this time of year because it is the perfect snow polish, it looks great and the wear you can get out of it is amazing. On the middle nails I stamped the trees over Nail Envy, then used one coat of Barry M Diamond Glitter and One coat of OPI Don't Touch My Tutu, topped with Seche then I added the snow piles at the bottom so they were textured too. I love how Barry M Diamond looks, the glitters look matte white most of the time but then when the light hits them in just the right way the holo pops out and makes it look so pretty!

The only downside there is to this mani is that removal is a beast of a chore but it's Christmas week and I am so excited, who else is excited? Only 6 days to go and Santa's coming!!!

Loot Gaming: Mythic

The November Loot Gaming theme was 'Mythic', a celebration of those who fight ancient battles against creatures of legend. All the items in this crate were exclusive items and it was a pretty good crate tbh, lets see why. I do quite like the fact that the art is a poster print now, I have been asking for this for years on Loot Crate but still to no avail but good to see it in one of the crates.

Loot Wear: Magical

The November Loot Wear truly was magical. It was a great month for Loot and yes, I am still running super late with them but just the November Loot Gaming to go after this one.

Kingdom Hearts Icon Scarf

'Protect yourself from the tragic nobodies with this super comfy Kingdom hearts heavy knit scarf'

This scarf is fantastic quality and a great length and in my opinion, not just for her. In fact, I have discovered that I can't wear proper scarfs anymore, even though it is freezing outside, if I wear a scarf, i will quickly start to overheat and it will make some of my symptoms flare up. So, Jim is now the possessor of this lush scarf.

Did you see the rest of the Loot Wear from November? I would have loved the Harry Potter socks and lounge pants. If you fancy signing up to Loot Wear in time for the December sub, you still have time, pop here now and get $5 off your first month!

'I Rebel' Nails

I think Star Wars is my most 'nailed' fandom, I have done quite a few of them in the past. Last year, when The Force Awakens was released I did 5 days of Star Wars nails but for Rogue One I have done one simple mani, 'I Rebel!' I am super excited to see the film but I know full well I'll have to wait until the blu-ray comes out, which I am kind of cool with but by then I will know everything about it.

I used a base of Barry M Black Forest, I freehanded on my thumb using Born Pretty Store Gold stamping polish and stamped the Rebel symbol from MyOnlineShop MJXLII using the same gold stamping polish. I think that is my best freehand writing on my nail ever, I am very impressed with it, my right hand thumb turned out almost as good too.

For the finished mani, and how I have been wearing it, I added a coat of Barry M Matte Topcoat. I adore how the Rebel symbol looks here, the writing looks a bit messier when matte but when looking at it normally and not right up close it still looks passable.

Are you going to see Rogue One? What are you going to wear on your nails for it? Click here to see all my other Star Wars nail art!

Geek Fuel November 2016

I feel like I am running super late getting all the subs up on the blog, I've already had a tracking email for the December Loot Pets and I haven't posted that yet, time always gets away from me in December, I feel like I am constantly on the go but never moving.

Anywhoooooooo, lets take a look at the November Geek Fuel!

Espionage Cosmetics Geek Icons Nail Wraps

Eeeeeep, These are the Geek Icons nail wraps from Espionage Cosmetics and I am in love with them. My experience with the application went way better than last time and I was finished in max 45 minutes. I had no bits sticking out at the sides. The only bit I still need to master is filing the excess off, I can't quite get the angle right and I took off a little too much on some nails, any tips for square nails???

I also need to get a non quick dry top coat, I got a little bit of shrinkage from the cuticle line even though I went over the edge of the wrap.

I decided to play around with the photos for these wraps, they have lots of stuff on there that I like but gaming is obviously a major one of them, but I went with tabletop instead of vidya games. Here I am lovingly caressing my pink and purple die set.

Here I am playing Pokemon UNO. I barely trimmed any of the wraps around the sides and cuticles this time and I really wanted this design on my nails somewhere so I popped it on my thumb, I ended up with 2 of this pattern and 2 of the other pattern left over so I can smash them into another mani.

Here they are in action in a game of Netrunner, which I still actually suck at, like proper suck. I much prefer proper board games to LCG's, which do you prefer?

I'm looking forward to using my next set, the hardest part is choosing which ones. They have a HUGE sale going on at the moment over on Espionage Cosmetics with wraps as low as $2, so pop over now to get all the bargains!!!

Use my codes above to get money off your order, but remember that they can only be used once per customer and can't be combined with other offers.

Loot Crate: Magical

The November theme for Loot Crate was Magical, celebrating mystical incantations and arcane adventures! I fully believe in magic, I have to, it's what keeps me going! Maybe not necessarily in Disney magic or movie magic but I believe that magic is everywhere, in the everyday, in the kindness we show other people, in laughter, in music, in food, in science and medicine and many, many other things, magic is all around you if you look for it.

'And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don't believe in magic will never find it.' - Roald Dahl

Lets have a look at the magical items in the crate.

Toon Link Inspired Nails

These are close to being Christmassy because of the colours and I even had someone mistake them for Christmas nails today too, so I'm still in the festive mood. But it's been a while since I nerded up my nails, so when I received an embellishment wheel from Born Pretty Store and I saw triangle studs, I knew straight away what had to be done, I expect most gamers would instantly think Triforce when they see gold triangles, because obviously! I went for Toon Link on this nail art, purely because his colours are brighter and I also had an idea for his belt.

The stud wheel actually comes with 12 different stud/embellishment style, all in a pretty gold colour. The amount you get differs for each shape and you get more of the smaller studs. The holo triangles, circles and diamonds look flimsy but they are all pretty sturdy and don't bend to a shape so if your nails are quite curved like mine, you will get bits sticking up but they cover well with a coat or two of Seche and they seem to hold well.

So I used the 3 triangle studs for the Triforce nail and for the belt I used one of the holo circles and one of the small round studs, I pushed the stud to one side of the circle to mimic the swirl shape on Link's belt buckle, then I added black nail polish to the space.

The base colour is Barry M Spring Green, for the hearts on the thumb I stamped from Moyou Geek 07 using Moyou White Knight, then coloured the hearts in using Ciate red Hot Chilli. For my index finger I stamped from that huge Warcraft plate I bought from AliExpress using Barry M Silver Foil and the blue is A-England Order of the Garter. Middle finger the v-neck is Barry M Key Lime, with Barry M Mushroom for the belt. And on the pinkie, I used a selection of reds from Barry M and Ciate and I attempted to use the method from Chalkboards Nails to do the Rupee, although I do kind of wish I had just stuck with one colour.

Overall I love this mani, even if it is a little bit too green. The studs are great and have done well, so far they have been through a hot bath, the gym and lots of catching fingers and scuffing. They have not started coming off, nor have they lost their colour.

You can find this wheel here for £1.78/$2.53 and don't forget when you shop on Born Pretty Store, you can use code CBAQ10 for 10% of all non sale items.

NOEL nails

Yay! My first Christmas nails of 2016. I love Christmas so much, the sparkle everywhere, the bustle, the extra kindness that everyone feels (they better *shakes fist*) family together and joy and of course the presents don't hurt, although I do prefer giving presents.

For this NOEL nail art I used this Harunouta L014 Stamping plate from Born Pretty Store. This plate has the whole alphabet on it all with fab vines or leaves or flowers around or coming off them. The lettering is quite a good size and should fit on most nail sizes, even shorties. The images are well etched and pick up straight away with every stamper I tried.

The base polish is two coats Ciate Red Hot Chilli, then I stamped with Moyou Black Knight and Colors By LLarowe Sparkling Diamonds, then topped it all with a coat of Seche.

You can find this plate here for £2.10/$2.99 and don't forget to use code CBAQ10 for 10% off all non sale items.

What Christmas/Festive nails have you got planned for this month?

Born Pretty Store Nail Art Mat

I don't know about you, but for me, the Uberchic silicone mat has been a godsend. It has reduced the amount of paper and kitchen roll I use during stamping and it is so easy to have loads of stamp decals on the go and colour swatches and smooshes. I bought the Uberchic when it first came out and there were no others on the market (that I know of) but now everyone is not only making them, but trying to improve on them.

Today I tried out one of the Born Pretty Store silicone mats. This one has lots of different shapes and sizes of nail templates, in both black and white, it even has nail tip shapes. At the top it has, what I like to call 'swatch circles' and along the bottom it has lots of cute little images. Everything to make nail art a breeze.

The images along the bottom are great for making a decal over, here I have drawn over the outline of the heart balloon shape and then filled it in and covered with a clear polish to make a decal. This was easy to peel off, except of course, the bit that hadn't dried yet because I'm too impatient and didn't wait long enough.

The best thing about this mat in my opinion, is that you can stamp directly onto the mat, without having to put down a layer of polish first. I tried this with Moyou White Knight and with Born Pretty Store Gold stamping polish and they both stamped nicely. You do have to be quick with it or you may get sections that don't stamp, like my hearts on the left, so it's not quite perfection but I do love that it is heading in the right direction.

The Uberchic mat is just a smidge bigger but they are about the same thickness and have exactly the same texture. If you are looking for your first mat, I would definitely recommend one of these. It measures approximately 40cm x 30cm and is a good size for a standard desk or workspace, it's easy to clean, just use sellotape or a lint roller and you can roll it up fairly small to put out of the way if you need the space for something else.

You can find it here for £8.95/$12.65, this one is option 5 and is a little bit more expensive than some of the other designs, there are 5 other designs/layouts to choose from.

Don't forget to use code CBAQ10 for 10% off all non sale items.

Do you have a nail art mat? Which one do you have or have you decided to get one now?
